Niseko gets buried under 10-15m of snowfall every winter, but what happens when the weather warms up and all that snow melts? Niseko transforms into a world of water fun, starting with river rafting and ending with activities on our lakes and nearby oceans.
Here are some of the water-related activities to cool you down and help you create amazing memories with your family or friends in Niseko every summer.
Niseko’s Shiribetsu River is classified as one of the cleanest rivers in Japan, and rafting is a popular way to enjoy its grand beauty. Niseko Hanazono Resort offers a 3-hour rafting tour down the river surrounded by trees and lush greenery. Great news for dog owners – your furry companion is also welcome on the chartered boats!
Kayaking can be a thrilling river activity or a relaxing lake or ocean experience. Because you sit closer to the water surface than in rafting, you can enjoy a different view closer to nature. Niseko Hanazono Resort offers a Fun Kayak Rental at the Hanazono Beach lake for those looking for a soothing kayaking experience amidst the alpine greenery.
A ducky is an inflatable kayak, and for those looking for a challenge, traversing the rivers with this watercraft can be a truly fulfilling way to spend your time. Choose between having your own boat or sharing it with a family member or friend. You’ll feel the river’s water currents like never before! Check out the Ducky Experience for more details.
SUP (stand-up paddleboarding) is a little more of a challenging option for adventure seekers, requiring good balance and a reasonable amount of fitness. You can paddle on Niseko’s Shiribetsu River or cruise with your paddleboard on nearby Lake Toya. Suitable for both children and adults, there are many options around the area.
Just an hour away from Niseko, sea kayaking is an amazing opportunity to immerse yourself in the turquoise blue ocean. You never venture far from the coastline and can enjoy paddling over giant kelp forests and into caves in the coastal cliffs. Jump on a sea kayaking tour so you don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime experience.
Want to physically challenge yourself, explore nature, and make a long-lasting memory with your family and friends? Check out this canyoning experience where you can explore canyons, slide, swim, and jump in a 6m deep natural pool. Prepare for a 3.5 hour adrenaline-fuelled adventure!
The clean, alpine waters of Niseko also make for great fishing opportunities! Check out Niseko Hanazono Resort’s Fishing Rental for a tranquil fishing experience with the people you love where you can catch-and-release fish in a pond within the resort. For more serious fisher people, there is a River Fishing Tour for a private lesson with a fishing expert.
For a really serious fishing experience, join a fishing charter on the deep blue sea off the coast of Niseko. An Ocean Fishing Tour can take you safely out to sea with a professional fisherman as your guide. Plus, enjoy a barbecue with the fish you caught at the end!
Even if relaxing by a pool is more your thing, you can do it in Niseko in summer. The temperature can get up around 30-35C in July and August, so The Green Leaf Niseko Village’s outdoor thermal pool is perfect for adults to sunbathe and kids to splash around in their floaties. Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono also has a 15m heated indoor pool.
