While the season isn’t quite over yet (the lifts are still spinning at Annupuri) we thought it was the perfect time to reflect on another incredible winter in Niseko. With snowfall totals that would be unheard of at most ski resorts, but considered just above average here, we reached 1283cm in total.
Despite one typical false start, this winter kicked off in the best way possible. Once the tap turned on, it didn’t stop pumping until the 3rd week of January. Mid-December saw the highest snowfall totals in 20 years! That momentum continued, with the month’s total accumulation of 370cm at village level (200m elevation), and 471cm on the upper slopes of Niseko United. It was certainly a December to remember here in the powder kingdom.
January in Niseko kicked off as it usually does, with classic Japow days filled with endless face shots… the kind of days you’ll be telling your grandkids about! Around mid-January we enjoyed some unexpected sunny spells and incredibly clear and mild weather, before winter came roaring back in February. On February 6th, the season’s heaviest 24-hour snowfall hit, totalling 30+cm at the base and 60cm at the upper elevations!
March started with a bang in the Grand Hirafu Terrain Park, where the Rhythm Rail Jam brought out some of the best talent to throw down in front of hundreds of spectators. Soon after, Niseko welcomed Snow Machine for the very first time, with Niseko Village hosting the biggest après vibes the area has ever seen. On the slopes, we’ve experienced it all… from several surprise powder days up until the 20th of March, to soft spring park laps.
If you’re like us, you’re already dreaming of your first turns on the slopes next winter. and i’s never to early to begin planning your visit for the 2025-26 season! Many accommodation providers in Niseko are now open for early-bird bookings. There are some exciting updates in store for next winter as well. We’ll be sure to fill you in on what’s going on later in the year.
While you wait for winter, why not explore the fun activities Niseko United has to offer this summer? Stay tuned for more updates during the green season.
